On July 9, in Nairobi, Kenya, TAILG and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Green Mobility Centre of Excellence (GM-CoE), marking the full launch of the “Green Ride Africa” initiative.
This collaboration not only represents a new practice in TAILG’s commitment to advancing green mobility in Africa, but also marks the establishment of TAILG’s identity as a green mobility project partner of UNDP, demonstrating the brand’s transition from global market expansion to ecosystem co-building.
International Recognition: TAILG Becomes a Green Mobility Project Partner of UNDP
In Africa, two- and three-wheeled vehicles are essential transportation tools for daily commuting and goods delivery. In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, the number of these vehicles exceeds 27 million, while the electrification rate remains below 0.1%. A large number of fuel-powered vehicles not only contribute significantly to urban air pollution, but also increase transportation-related carbon emissions and mobility costs, creating dual challenges for climate action and improving livelihoods.
As an important UN implementing agency at the national level, UNDP has long been committed to sustainable development and climate action in Africa, with transportation electrification being one of its key areas of focus. Given the project’s combined value in improving livelihoods and addressing climate challenges, UNDP applies rigorous partner selection standards and long-term evaluation mechanisms. TAILG’s participation as a key partner in the GM-CoE project reflects UNDP’s recognition of TAILG’s green mobility practices, global market experience, and technology implementation capabilities.
Previously, TAILG had already collaborated with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for seven years on green mobility initiatives, implementing green transportation pilot projects in multiple countries and integrating green mobility solutions into local communities. From working with UNEP to promote green mobility to partnering with UNDP on ecosystem development, the continued expansion of cooperation demonstrates the United Nations system’s long-term recognition of TAILG’s practical experience in green mobility and its commitment to sustainable development.
